Fissure Sealants at Pearl Smile Dental Group

Protect your young adult teeth from tooth decay

With regular visits to see our dentists, we will be able to check your teeth for any initial signs of decay. It is important for children and teenagers to see the dentist at least every six months once their adult teeth have grown though. Whenever food is consumed, it can get stuck in between the teeth and within the grooves at the top of the tooth. These are known as fissures and if food settles, the bacteria can start to attack the teeth.

Fissure Sealants for Children

Children, teenagers and young adults may not brush and clean their teeth thoroughly but also sometimes brushing and rinsing may not be able to remove all the food sufficiently every time. If our dentists detects signs of settled food or tooth decay within the fissures, then a sealant will be advised to help protect the tooth from deteriorating further.

A tooth filling may not be required at an early stage of decay. Fissure sealants do not require any drilling and can be easily applied. The affected tooth will be cleaned, dried and then a resin will be bonded to seal the fissure. The resin will then harden which will form the necessary protection required.

Fissure Sealant Treatment

The material used is just as hard as a white filling so the tooth will be protected for a good length of time. Regular dental check-ups are still advised to see if any of the repaired teeth are in good order and functioning well. As soon as treatment is complete, the patient can eat and drink as normal.

Fissure Sealant treatment prices start at £65.20. If you would like further information about fissure sealants please contact our friendly reception team at Pearl Smile Dental Group.
